Relaxation, what does that mean to you? This word can mean many things and can come in many different forms. Has anyone ever said to you, “just relax?” It is simple but can be a very complex concept. Many of us hear the words mindfulness, deep breaths, and meditation when using the word relaxation. For some that is exactly what it means and you know how to access your relaxation tools and methods. But for many of us it does not come that easy and it is very hard to relax our mind and body. If you fall in this category here are some strategies to take to find your version of relaxation.
When do you find yourself most at peace? Being in nature? Sitting by water? Listening to music? Doing a hobby? Doing yoga? Going for a walk? Next time you are in that place, pay attention to how that feels in your mind and body. What do you notice?
Try to find time to be in your place of peace on a regular basis. Daily, multiple times a week, or weekly? Make time for it! You deserve it! If you are not finding time for it, what is holding you back? What can you change to make more time?
Notice when you are doing something that brings you peace, can you quiet your mind? Can you let go of some negative or difficult thoughts for a second, a minute, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc?
Try to talk to a friend or someone you trust if you are having a hard time finding your peaceful place. They may have a perspective or insight that could help.
Join a circle of others if you need that connection to continue accessing your peaceful place.
Take a risk and challenge yourself to practice a relaxation or peaceful technique.
